1. Who provides Maia
Maia is provided by Zumy Labs Limited, Dublin, Ireland (“Zumy”, “we”, “us”). Zumy Labs Limited is being incorporated in Ireland; until registration is complete, Zumy is run by its founder, who is responsible for these commitments, and the company takes them over once it is registered. 2. What Maia is
Maia is an AI language tutor. It teaches through lessons, exercises, conversations with an AI tutor, pronunciation practice and homework feedback, for adults, teens and, through a parent's account, children.
3. Your account
You must be at least 13 to use Maia, or older if the law where you live requires it. Give accurate information, keep your sign-in secure and tell us at hello@zumy.ai if you think someone else is using your account. You are responsible for what happens in your account.
If you are 13 to 17, you need your parent's or guardian's permission. Parents: you must be 18 or over to create child profiles, you are responsible for how your children use Maia and for the settings you choose, and you confirm you have the right to give consent for each child you add.
4. Your content
What you put into Maia and what Maia creates for you belongs to you, as far as the law allows. You give us permission to host, copy, process and display it only to run Maia for you (for example to send it to the AI model that answers you) and to keep the service safe. This permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies in backups, which are overwritten within 30 days.
You confirm you have the right to everything you upload or connect, and that using it in Maia does not break anyone else's rights.
5. Learning with an AI tutor
Maia helps you practise; it does not guarantee results, a level or an exam score. The tutor can make mistakes in language, grammar, translation or pronunciation feedback. Maia is not a substitute for a teacher's supervision of young children: keep an eye on how your child uses it, and use the parent controls.
6. AI output
Maia uses AI. AI can be wrong, incomplete or out of date, and similar requests can get different answers. Check anything important, and do not rely on Maia for medical, legal, financial or safety decisions without a qualified person. Output is not professional advice, and it may not be unique: other people may receive similar output.
7. Acceptable use
Do not use Maia to:
- break the law, or help someone else break it;
- harass, threaten, defraud or impersonate anyone;
- create or share sexual content involving minors, or content that exploits or endangers children;
- infringe copyright, trademarks, privacy or other rights;
- send spam or bulk unsolicited messages;
- create malware, attack systems, or get around Maia's limits, security or usage caps;
- scrape, resell or reverse-engineer Maia, or use it to build a competing AI model;
- try to get the tutor to produce harmful, sexual or violent content, or use Maia to contact or collect information about children;
We may remove content, limit features or suspend accounts that break these rules, and report illegal content to the authorities.
8. Plans, payments and cancelling
Maia has free lessons and two paid plans. Plus is for one learner and costs 7.99 US dollars a month or 59.99 US dollars a year. Family covers a parent and up to four children and costs 11.99 US dollars a month or 89.99 US dollars a year. Prices may be shown in your local currency, and differ in some countries; the price shown before you buy is the one you pay.
Free trial. A paid plan can start with one 7-day free trial per account. A payment method is needed to start it; you are charged when the trial ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before.
- Automatic renewal. Paid plans renew automatically at the end of each period at the price shown, until you cancel.
- Cancelling. Bought in the App Store or Google Play: cancel in your Apple ID or Google Play subscription settings. Bought on the web: cancel in Maia's account settings. Cancel at least 24 hours before renewal to avoid the next charge; your plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for.
- Refunds. Apple and Google handle refunds for purchases made through them, under their rules. For web purchases, write to hello@zumy.ai within 14 days of a charge; we refund where the law requires it and consider other requests fairly. EU and UK consumers: by starting to use a paid plan straight away you agree that the 14-day withdrawal right ends once the service has been fully provided, and a pro-rata refund applies otherwise.
- Price changes. We tell you before a new price applies, and you can cancel before it does.
- Taxes. Prices may include or add VAT or sales tax, depending on where you live.
9. Other services
Maia can link to or work with services we do not run. Their own terms and privacy policies apply to them, and we are not responsible for them.
10. Changes to Maia and to these terms
We keep improving Maia, so features may change or end; we try to give notice before removing something important you pay for. We may update these terms; if a change is significant we tell you in Maia or by email at least 30 days before it applies. If you do not agree, you can stop using Maia and cancel before the change applies.
11. Ending the agreement
You can stop using Maia and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, or when the law requires it; where we reasonably can, we tell you why first and let you download your content.
12. Warranties and liability
Maia is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or fit for a particular purpose.
To the extent the law allows, Zumy is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, or for loss of profits, data or goodwill, and our total liability to you is limited to the greater of what you paid us for Maia in the 12 months before the claim and 100 US dollars (or the equivalent in your currency).
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud, and nothing takes away rights you have as a consumer under the law where you live.
13. Governing law and disputes
Please contact us first at hello@zumy.ai; most problems are solved quickly that way. These terms are governed by the laws of Ireland, and the courts of Ireland have jurisdiction, except that if you are a consumer you can also bring a claim in the courts where you live, and the mandatory consumer laws of your country still apply.
14. Apple and Google
If you got Maia from the Apple App Store, these terms are between you and Zumy, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for Maia or its content, has no obligation to provide maintenance or support, and is not responsible for any claims about it (including product-liability, legal-compliance or intellectual-property claims). If Maia fails to meet a warranty that applies, you may notify Apple, which may refund the purchase price; Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them. You confirm you are not in a country under a US government embargo and are not on a US government list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple's Standard End User License Agreement also applies where these terms do not cover something.
If you got Maia from Google Play, the Google Play Terms of Service also apply to your purchase.
15. General
These terms, together with the Maia privacy policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about Maia. If a part is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later. You may not transfer these terms without our consent; we may transfer them to a company that takes over Maia, and your rights stay the same.
